Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi Holds Talks with Indonesian Counterpart Hassan Wirayuda

On July 1, 2009, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held talks with visiting Indonesian Foreign Minister Hassan Wirayuda in Beijing. Both sides exchanged views on bilateral ties as well as international and regional issues of common concern.

During the talks, Yang said that the China-Indonesia friendly cooperation had made achievements continuously. The China-Indonesia dialogue meeting at vice premier level was held successfully. The Suramadu Bridge linking East Java province and Madura Island in Indonesia was completed and opened to the public this June with China's support. The implementation of such projects as the coal-fired power station is underway. The trade target set by both sides was fulfilled ahead of schedule, with in-depth development of pragmatic cooperation in all areas, he said. "China attaches great importance to the important and active role Indonesia plays in the regional and international affairs," said Yang, adding that China is ready to further advance friendly relations and strategic cooperation with Indonesia.

Hassan agreed that Indonesia-China relationship was experiencing a healthy development, with fruitful cooperation in economy and trade and deepening exchanges in all areas. He reiterated Indonesia's adherence to the one-China policy, adding that Indonesia is ready to work with China to enhance mutually beneficial cooperation in all areas to bring benefits to both peoples.

The two foreign ministers signed a treaty on extradition between the two countries after their talks.
