| Wen Jiabao Meets with Kazakh Counterpart Masimov |

On October 15, 2009, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met at the Great Hall of the People with his Kazakh counterpart Karim Masimov, who is here for the eighth prime ministers' meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states. Wen said China-Kazakhstan cooperation had achieved fruitful results in all areas and the two countries had enriched their strategic cooperation in the past 17 years. China has always viewed ties with Kazakhstan from a strategic and long-term perspective and considered its strategic partnership with Kazakhstan as one of its priorities in foreign relations. China is ready to work with Kazakhstan to continuously push for in-depth development of bilateral ties. Wen said both sides should further expand pragmatic cooperation in all areas, do well in construction of key energy projects, advance non-resources cooperation and step up efforts to implement already-agreed cooperation projects in border trade, agriculture, transportation and infrastructure. Both sides should also promote bilateral trade and investment, improve trade mix and strive for trade balance. China is ready to discuss cooperation with the Kazakh side on clean energy, especially on the development and production of technology and equipment concerning solar energy and hydropower. Masimov hailed the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. He called this SCO prime ministers' meeting a great success, saying the outcome at the meeting will play a positive role in promoting the SCO's future development and safeguarding regional and world peace and stability. He made positive comments on the progress made in China-Kazakhstan relations and expressed willingness to cooperate closely with China to earnestly implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries. Kazakhstan was willing to boost cooperation with China in energy and infrastructure and push forward bilateral ties, Masimov said. |
