On October 19, 2009, visiting Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo met with British Conservative Party leader David Cameron in London. Dai said the Conservative Party is an important force on the British political arena and has made important contribution to relations between the two countries. China has all along highly valued its relations with the Conservatives. He said Sino-British relations have come to a new historical starting point. The two nations, sharing greater common interests and greater desire for further cooperation and reaching broader strategic consensus, are facing rare opportunities for development. Dai said he hoped the Conservative Party could make new contribution to the development of bilateral ties. Cameron said the Conservative Party highly appraised China's achievements in economic and social fields and its constructive role in international affairs. He said his party believes the Britain-China relations are very important and will make efforts to boost cooperation between the two nations. The Conservative Party hopes to enhance mutual exchanges and understanding with China, Cameron added. On October 20, Dai also met with representatives from the leading British think tanks and media organizations. |
