Wen Jiabao Arrives in Thailand for East Asia Summit Meetings

On the evening of October 23 local time, at the invitation of Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao arrived in Hua Hin, Thailand by special plane to attend the East Asia summit meetings.

Thai Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban and other Thai senior officials greeted Wen at the airport. Chinese Ambassador to Thailand Guan Mu, as well as the staff of the embassy and representatives of overseas Chinese also welcomed Wen at the airport. Wen's entourage arrived by the same plane.

During his stay in Thailand, Wen is scheduled to attend the 12th summit between ASEAN and China (10+1), the 12th summit between ASEAN and China, Japan and South Korea (10+3) and the fourth East Asia Summit. He will also meet with leaders from other countries during his three-day stay.

Wen gave an interview to the accompanying journalists aboard the special plane. He said in face of the global financial crisis and other severe challenges, East Asian countries share stronger aspiration to enhance cooperation, overcome current difficulties and seek common development. The fate of China is closely connected with the fates of other countries in the region and they should stand together through thick and thin. The purpose of his current trip is to embody friendship, sincerity, cooperation and confidence, said Wen, expressing hope for the success of the meetings. He looked forward to exchanging in-depth views with leaders of other countries on issues of common concern, to accumulate consensus and push for tangible outcome at the meetings, in a bid to deepen East Asia cooperation and achieve common development, sustained development and harmonious development.

After arriving in Thailand, Wen met at the hotel where he stayed with the staff of the Chinese Embassy in Thailand and representatives from overseas Chinese, Chinese-funded institutions and Chinese students.
