On October 26, 2009, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Wang Guangya attended a reception marking the 30th anniversary of the UN system in China co-hosted by UN Association of China and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Wang also addressed the reception on behalf of the Chinese government.
In his speech, Wang appreciated the assistance UN has offered for China's development over the past three decades, saying that with the deepening of reform and opening-up, China's cooperation with UN agencies in China has been enriched and made noticeable achievements. Wang pointed out under the impact of the global financial crisis, the international development cause has been hard hit and the challenges facing developing countries are particularly severe. The UN should play a greater role to help developing nations shake off the impact of the crisis. China has always strived to contribute to the world's development through its own development and is ready to continue offering assistance to other developing countries within its ability. Wang said he hoped the UN would take the 65th anniversary of its founding as an opportunity to play an even greater role in the three pillar areas of security, development and human rights. |
