Chinese Premier Leaves Thailand for Home after Attending East Asia Summit Meetings
2009-10-25

On the afternoon of October 25 local time, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao left for home by special plane after attending the 12th summit between ASEAN and China (10+1), the 12th summit between ASEAN and China, Japan and the Republic of Korea (10+3) and the fourth East Asia Summit in Hua Hin, Thailand.

Premier Wen attended the above meetings at the invitation of Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva.

During the 10+1 summit, participants reviewed their joint efforts to combat the international financial crisis and meet other challenges in the past year or so, expressed their readiness to work together for common development and reached a wide-ranging consensus on ways to deepen their cooperation in an all-round way. Wen also made a six-point proposal for strengthening cooperation between China and ASEAN. At the 10+3 summit, the leaders exchanged in-depth views on ways of tackling the global financial crisis and enhancing pragmatic cooperation. Wen emphasized that the ASEAN-plus-3 cooperation should continue to take the addressing of the global financial crisis as a top priority. Meanwhile, countries within the ASEAN Plus Three mechanism should take a long-term perspective, enrich cooperation in all areas, push forward regional integration and promote peace and prosperity in the region. At the fourth East Asia Summit, Wen and leaders of other countries exchanged views on pushing forward regional cooperation and issues of common concern.

During his stay in Hua Hin, Wen also met respectively with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, New Zealand's Prime Minister John Key, Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, Myanmar's Prime Minister Thein Sein and Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva. Before leaving Thailand, Wen and ASEAN leaders also attended the signing ceremonies of several cooperation documents.

The staff of the Chinese Embassy in Thailand and the senior officials of the Thai government saw him off at the airport.
