(2011-09-16)

Distinguished Lord Mayor Montague, Mayor GUO Jinlong, Ladies and Gentlemen, friends from business circles,

Good afternoon.

First of all, I would like to extend my warm congratulations to the Promotional Event of the first China (Beijing) International Fair for Trade in Service (CIFTIS) in Dublin on behalf of the Chinese Embassy and sincere greetings and best regards to the friends present and friends from all fields who have been pushing forward the China Ireland friendly relations.

Dear friends,

Since China and Ireland established diplomatic relations 32 years ago, the friendly co-operative relations between our two countries have developed steadily and the economic and trade cooperation have expanded continuously. The twinning between Beijing and Dublin this June injects fresh impetus into China Ireland friendly cooperation. As known to all, since the founding of Shannon free trade Zone in 1950s, Ireland has developed an export-oriented economic growth model with attracting foreign investment and expanding export successfully. Its service industries like IT, financial service, aviation leasing, software development have achieved great progress, which sets a good example of service industry development for the whole world and lays a solid foundation for the development of the Irish economy. In spite of the economic crisis, the service trade still accounts for around 80% of Ireland's GDP. In recent years China has achieved gratifying success in service industry and service trade. In 2010, added value of service industry in China amounted to 17.1 trillion RMB, accounting for 43% of its GDP. The imports and exports of China's service trade rank 3rd and 4th respectively in the world. The Twelfth Five-Year Plan of China clearly identifies the boost of the service industry as the strategic priority of the industrial structure optimizing and upgrading. Service trade development has been an important component of the new step of China's open economy.

To stimulate the development of the service industry and the service trade, China will hold the first China (Beijing) International Fair for Trade in Service in 2012. Through such a State level, international and comprehensive platform, we could open up a new window for international service trade and facilitate the exchanges among service trade enterprises. Hereby I invite you, my Irish friends from business circles, to visit the CIFTIS, and I believe that your visit will be fruitful. I hope the promotional event in Dublin could further strengthen the bilateral exchanges and cooperation of bilateral service trade and China Ireland economic and trade ties. The Chinese Embassy, as always, will be acting as a bridge to enhance mutual understanding and cooperation between the business circles, and make every effort to promote the bilateral trade and the enterprises to exploit the international market.

Finally, I wish the promotional event a great success. Three days later, it will be the Mid-Autumn Day, a traditional Chinese festival. I would like to take this opportunity to wish you, all the friends here, happiness, good health and prosperity.

Thank you.
