On the afternoon of Thursday, 6th April 2017, H.E. Dr. Yue Xiaoyong, Chinese Ambassador to Ireland, launched the official WeChat account of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Ireland (WeChat ID: Chinaemb_ie).
Joining the Ambassador in witnessing the start of the Embassy’s social media presence were dozens of invited guests from all walks of life, including officials of the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, scholars from such think tanks as IIEA and Asian Matters, business leaders and representatives of the Chinese community in Ireland.
Welcoming guests and friends to the Embassy, Ambassador Yue Xiaoyong shared his views on the growing China-Ireland relations and the significance of the Embassy’s launching its WeChat account.
“We hope to utilize this account to disseminate officially verified information about the new developments in the multi-faceted Sino-Irish relations, to expand our circle of friends and partners, and to provide quality consular services to the growing Chinese community here in Ireland,” he said.
Proposing a toast to everlasting friendship between Ireland and China, the Ambassador encouraged everybody present at the launching ceremony to spread the news and get more stakeholders connected with the Embassy on WeChat, which, with over 800 million active users around the globe by the end of 2016, has become an indispensible part of Chinese people’s daily life.
Also in attendance were Political Counsellor Ms. Yang Hua, Commercial Counsellor Ms. Xue He, and several other diplomats from various sections and offices of the Chinese Embassy.
