Ambassador He presents Credentials to President Higgins

On 28 May 2019, H.E. Mr. He Xiangdong, the new Chinese Ambassador to Ireland presented Letter of Credence to H.E. Mr. Michael D. Higgins, President of Ireland. Also present were Mme. Xia Lining, Ambassador He’s wife, Mr. Huang He, Political Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission of the Chinese Embassy, H.E. Mr. Simon Coveney, Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Mr. Art O’Leary, Secretary General to President and Mr. James Kingston, Legal Advisor of Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.


Ambassador He conveyed cordial greetings from President Xi Jinping for the well-being of President Higgins and that of the people of Ireland, and extended sincere gratitude for the President’s attention and support to the relationship between the two countries. The Ambassador said that in the past few years, under the guidance of Leadership of China and Ireland, the Strategic Partnership for Mutually Beneficial Co-operation between China and Ireland enjoys good momentum, with fruitful cooperation in various fields and deeper friendship between the two peoples. Ambassador He said that he is honoured to have been nominated Chinese Ambassador to Ireland in the year marking the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Ireland and expressed his readiness to work closely with the Irish side to facilitate further development of China-Ireland friendship and cooperation for the benefit of the two peoples.

President Higgins asked Ambassador He to convey his sincere greetings to President Xi Jinping. He recalled his meeting with President Xi Jinping during his state visit to China in 2014. The President stressed that he attaches great importance to the good relationship with President Xi as well as the positive momentum of Ireland-China relations. The Irish side will work along with Chinese side to further enhance cooperation in various areas, jointly uphold multilateralism, and further strengthen Ireland-China relations.


Following the credentials ceremony, Ambassador He reviewed a guard of honor.

Ambassador He and Mme. Xia arrived in Dublin on 3 May 2019 and presented copy of Letter of Credence on 10 May 2019.
