Ambassador He meets Lord Mayor and Chief Executive of Dublin

On 1st August, Ambassador He Xiangdong met with Mr. Paul McAuliffe, Lord Mayor of Dublin, and Mr. Owen Keegan, Chief Executive of Dublin City Council. They exchanged views on further developing friendly relations and cooperation in various fields between Chinese provinces or cities and Dublin.

Ambassador He said that Beijing and many other provinces or cities in China have built up fruitful cooperation and exchanges with Dublin, with close collaboration in fields of economic, trade, investment, officer and people-to-people exchanges, and tourism. Both sides learn from each other in municipal governance and urban planning. The local exchanges project momentum for China-Ireland relations. The Chinese embassy in Ireland is as always ready to be a bridge between Dublin and Chinese local governments to push forward bilateral local cooperation.

Ambassador He said that Dublin Chinese New Year Celebration has been successfully held in the past 12 years under cooperation between the Embassy and Dublin City Council. It is now a festival celebration of name-recognition in Dublin, showing fine Chinese cultural traditions to Irish people and deepening people-to-people connectivity between the two countries. The Embassy is willing to make joint efforts with the Dublin City Council to hold more cultural events in Dublin to further deepen friendship between the two people.

The Lord Mayor and Chief Executive expressed their appreciation for the immense achievements of China’s reform and opening up. Dublin is willing to deepen its cooperation with Chinese local governments in various fields under the framework of Belt and Road Initiative and will certainly keep the China New Year Celebration as its brand and work together with the Chinese Embassy to make the festival even more successful. They also appreciated the contribution of Chinese community to Dublin.
