On the evening of June 26, Aer Lingus flight EI9023 arrived at Dublin Airport with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), which highlights that the procurement of medical supplies by the Irish Government in China has been fully delivered.

Over the past 14 weeks since March 28, Aer Lingus's fleet of Airbus 330 flew 259 round trips between Dublin and Beijing, with total 4.75 million flown kilometres, and transported 4,000 tonnes or over 86 million pieces of PPE. It was the largest air cargo operation in the history of Ireland.

Sean Bresnan, National Director of Procurement of HSE, said: “Today is a hugely significant milestone in terms of our response to the pandemic as we see the last of 259 Aer Lingus flights return from Beijing to Ireland. During that period Aer Lingus have operated up to 5 flights per day and delivered to us in excess of 86m pieces of critical PPE. Aer Lingus has been an integral and key part of a multi-agency effort to secure critical stocks of PPE in a time of unprecedented global shortage.”.

Relevant Chinese authorities, CR Pharma and other Chinese enterprises have worked along with HSE, IDA, DFAT and Aer Lingus in this unprecedented mission. The two sides’ joint efforts ensured a great success.

Kudos to the Sino-Irish cooperation in the fight against COVID-19 and to everyone involved in this work!
